yes you remove the spring and bolt



You can leave it if you want BUT it is probably better to remove it just so it never works loose and clanks around in there. I left mine with no problems.

I always leave the bolt and spring in place...for the next guy that does the job, down the line. I'd be money ahead to just keep re-using the bolt and spring for each Zetec timing belt replacement job, but I buy new ones, each time, because I'm a nice guy.
