Last night (22nd) while cruisng in my Contour after a wash, wax, and rear brace bar install I pulled up to a light at a busy intersection and was met with a red light, so I stopped. When I got the green arrow to make a left,I abruptly hit the gas, but to my suprise the engine just revved up like I was in neutral. So I looked down at my shifter just in case, and nope I was still in D. Then, suddenly, my car lurched forward, reluctantly, but I was moving nonetheless. I expericanced the same problems for about 200 feet down the road so I decided to pull on the a little residental side street. I put the car in park, let it sit for about 15 secs. and then tried to go again, same problem. So I drove another 25 feet and parked it, got out and noticed red ATF all over the side of my car and even on top of my hood. Upon lifiting the aforementioned hood I was greeted by my ATF drenched Engine bay. Looked under the car and found a big puddle and I followed a streak of the stuff back to the place where I temp. stopped and found another puddle. I fear the worse has happened but I am not sure. The Shop I had it towed to will not be able to look at it until the 24th. I'm 17 and scared that I'll be without my car for a very long time and/or broke/in debt. Can anyone tell me my options and what I should/can do next. Any advice is appreciated. Oh and I just had the tranny flushed at 62,000 miles now has 62,750 and I'm not sure is the previous owner (bought it used at 50,000) properly maintained the car. Sorry for the long post but I had to get my story out there.

Sounds like, and this is just a possibility, that you lost hyraulic pressure at some point and then it spiked. This spike in pressure is known to crack the case of the ATX, hince the fluid lose.

So this is definitely bad, but how bad? What am I looking at as far as repair costs (if what you said is the case) and would it be worth it? Thanks

That explains why mine was squirting fluid out the bottom of it before I decided to replace it.

I know next to nothing about Transmission(although this sounds similar to what I went through a few months ago...that ended in a new tranny) Bye bye tranny...you're pretty much gonna need a new tranny and its gonna hit you at about $2500 unless you're mechanically inclined . You should start thinking about what you can do. If you just need transportation I suggest you sell the car(or part it out) get what you can and go buy you something else(with potentially more or less problems) Its a quick fix and if you really need to get around that what I would suggest.
Or you could go the second route and get the thing fixed. I, like you and pretty broke(college ownz me) so what I did was finance the repair of my transmission(I had no more car payments so it was fine).
Last option, that I can suggest, is you just lay the car to rest for a long time till you can save up the money for the repairs.
Seriously there is no good way outta this...I guess you could just pray that you don't need a new tranny...and if you do need a new tranny pray that there are CEG'er near you to help you with the repairs to save you some money.

Oh man, that really sucks. If you need any help, let me know. Im no expert, but check to see if a tranny line broke or poped. That would sure explain the fluid all over the place.

The first thing to check is the side cover vent hose. It could be pinched by the battery (or plugged) and this could cause fluid to spill out of the fill tube. Some people mistake this tube for a vacuum line and plug it.
The TC bypass valve in the CD4E can hang up and cause excessive pressure build up that can break the welds on the TC and the forward drum. This could be your problem.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! Turns out it was just a broken tranny line and I couldn't be happier. I automatically feared the worst and started to panic but everything is going to be ok. I just have to wait four days for the part to be shipped in from Ford and pay $240 for the labor and aforementioned part. $240 seems a little steep to me, but nothing compared to $2000 plus Thanks for the input everybody.
