If you grind the base circle size you start exerting more force on the edge of the tappet which rapidly wears the tappet bore in the head. By the time you have ground enough to make a worthwile improvement the head will only last 20k before the noises get louder and then there is a BANG! The only correct way of doing the cam swap idea was what shcrick developed for the GM/OPEL 2.5 V6, four billet ground cams from new blanks plus four vernier pullys. In short $1600 bucks just for the sticks, most dealers were unable to do a cam swop for much less than $2000 because of other "bits" you had to buy.
