There is a pretty well documented thread about most of the PCM codes and what to expect if you search the archives.
Each code reacts a little differently to what actually was changed on the chip. Most chips don't change much at all either.
You are much better off getting a chip from an experienced tuner. The only one I would recommend is Street Flight. Also to date no other tuner (superchips, diablo, ford chips, etc) has shown they can tune our platform worth a crap. All have done half-assed jobs at best.

My superchip for the XGT1 code (2000 SVT) was not bad and never pinged or detonated once on 92 octane. Then again I am the one that helped make the base code through trial and error too so YMMV with other codes. (like I previously stated) Matter of fact it's what I was running when I did my old dyno's and they crested 190 even. (yes lots of other well chosen mods)
Guess I was smart not to just throw away $225 unlike some other people in this thread did???

Short answer...
Get a Street Flight chip.
I was smart not to let it bother me like it seems to bother you.
