Let's start by saying that i'm trying to get a nice low rumble out of my little 4 popper Tique. I had gone to flowmasters web site and heard a sound clip of a Honda 4 with a 60 series and it sounded great. So I figured i'd run 2.25 from cat, replace the can in the middle with a 60, then run 2.25 back to a "Y" at the trunk and run to either side with some polished tips.
Well that was the plan but the Flow won't fit where the round can is (hang too low, DAMN.) We finally decided to scrap everything from the center can back, replace it with 2.25 and do the "Y" thing. Well let me tell you it sure looks cool with those polished tips back there and when I start her up she's got a nice rumble but when I accelerate she gets a little loud. Pingle (muffler guy) suggested a pair of mini GP's in the rear would quite her down a bit.
Now for the question, is that round can in the middle really a muffler or is it a resinator?

Resonator. The muffler is at the back.
IMO, stick a Magnaflow or other muffler at the res location.

Not really, s2pac has a flowmaster on his Duratec and it sounds great. I would not use one on a Zetec though.

I have a 40 Series mounted in the rear stock location,res removed, and a stock turn down tip. Its not loud,low burbule sound ( it does come on above 100 mph though).
I just didn't want the Ricer sound, and its hard not to have it with a 4 cly engine. I would like it louder though.
Its a compromise.

http://www.axs4u.net/home/louiem/CougarHKS.mpg That's with a flowmaster and quad monza resonated tips. I think it sounds pretty boss myself. Sounded the same even after I cut out the resonated parts of the tips later. I don't know how much the turbo adds or takes away from the sound, but can't be too much. For performance I prefer dynomax or magnaflow, but for sound, Flowmaster is great.

50-series in the stock location, no res and a mystery mod. Sounds fine. Idle is dead silent but up in the RPMs I am lounder then my brother's ZX2 with 2.25" no-res and a 40-series.
I think my age is talking because I want it to be quieter now. At certain RPMs the resonation is quite, um, interesting.
