but it's not a ford; first-year recalls out the ying-yang aren't necessarily industry-wide.

my .02 - drive it. a good friend and former '95 contour SE/MTX owner is in the midst of a buyback on a focus, and if the terms of the deal weren't set up to put him back in another ford he said he'd be in a TC in a heartbeat. he drove one and was very impressed.....

the feature content for $16.5k is pretty impressive - that's for sure.

haven't sat in one, so i can't say how it feels....and i'm not all that excited about the exterior, but it is a pretty decent looking car. i'd say it's pretty hard to beat for the money.....

i personally would rather have an FSVT or something than a tC, but i do respect the tC for what it is....

The focus svt is not worth your time, at least the zx3 model. It sucks my sisters boyfriend has one (lives with us) and he hates it. I mean someone barely hit him (tbone) and it just smashes to hell. almost costed half the cars worth, 2 months after he bought it. The car is weak, and can't even beat his old csvt. When we have gotten on the highway we raced to 60, and he barely wins against my stock 99 se sport. Not to impressive, and the cheap 8 inch sub is horrible sounding, he wants to replace that. the seat belts look horrible, the interior is awsome looking on the fsvt gotta give it that. but the engine is week. maybe if the new fsvt is a duretec.. I would say yes. Due to its crappy motor, and [censored] sound system, and honda sound muffler.... i know I would take a scion tc over a focus svt.

I like how the Scion TC has sort of a mini-Volvo coupe look to it. I mistook one for a new S40 a couple of weeks ago, until I counted the doors. I think I'd consider one against a Mazda 3, but the extra utility of the 3 would probably tilt the scales.

Toyota tends to make a good car. All the Scions are rebadged JDM Toyotas. The Tc is the next Gen Celica as it is being discontinued. The stock engine is 169 hp. I say wait 'till February, then the factory supercharger option will be available.

A Tc isn't the most attractive car in the world, but it's got so many features and it's so inexpensive. I would at least look at one. As for people saying it's a first year car and it will have a lot of problems, that very likely won't be the case. Two reasons for this; one it uses proven parts from existing cars, two it isn't a Ford, GM, or Chrysler, Japanese cars tend to have way fewer problems in their first year of production than american cars do.

These things look much better in person than in the magazines. At least from the front. The rear of the car is a little bland, but this car has a lot of nice features and toyota reliability for the money!

It's a first year car to the North American market . The Scion tC is nothing more than a rebadged Japanese-market Toyota Avenis, which is an extremely well established platform in Japan and Europe, so I highly doubt it will have very many recalls at all. Glad to see you know things.

For roughly $16,500 out the door, you get a full glass sunroof, a 5 speed manual, and many other goodies plus a full aftermarket dealer-installed catalog which includes a supercharger upgrade good for 43 more horses that retails for about $4000. A $20,500 car with 203 bhp and five speed sounds pretty good to me. Even without the supercharger, 160 bhp is good enough for mid 7s to 60 and that's pretty entertaining to start off with. But you can practically customise the car any way you like, and it's doubtful you'll come across another tC optioned just like yours, and that's what I like about them.

BTW, there is no 105 bhp tC. All tCs get the "big" motor.
