What's "a non-interference engine"?
Means when the timing belt breaks the internals don't smash into each other. I am still not %100 sure there is zero interference for our engines. I have seen one first hand that let go its belt and took about $1000 in internals with it.

i see that someoen mntioned a probe engien being similar to the contour its not. they are etotaly different. the 4 bangers are way different and the v6 are both 2.5 but are no way the same. the duratec has a longer stroke than the mazda v6 and the mazda v6 uses timing belts and doesnt have dis.

Yes it does, I'm happy to have a pre98 with two adjustable cam gears and no CEL.

I'm not 100% sure the zetec is a non-interference engine either...I've seen conflicting posts.

That happens in a Honda and it's $2500 engine rebuild time.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

old prelude i drove timing belt snaped 2 weeks and 2,000$ later i was on the road again... now im trying to find a way to blow my engine and fry my tranny without voiding the warrenty...
but back to the point, a non interference engine... is that going to make things more difficult on me to destroy it?
