I want what you're on, because an Eclipse GST would walk almost every CSVT here. Sorry guy, but you don't stand a chance. The only thing you'll probably remember about this race is his license plate number.

The GS-T's are faster then the much heavier GSX's in stock or near stock form.
I also want some of what you are smokin' It must be great...

I do believe the GSX's are acutally faster, atleast that is what experience and stock 1/4 mile times lead me to believe. Also depending on the year of GSX or GST you meet up with you may or may not be able to beat them. The 95 GST and GSX run damn near similar in 1/4 mile times, hovering around 14.9 to 15.0 (95 being their fastest year from the factory). Now I believe that is faster than our cars, easily, but its close enough (i believe most people get mid to low 15's with their lightly modded svt's) to possibly be a drivers race. With that said most GST's and GSX's you come up against wont be stock. It is too easy to add a boost controller or anything like that to just beef up their cars.

Certainly. If you decide that cooking your clutch is worth a tenth or two off the line that you'll lose anyway as speeds increase. GSXs carry a ton of unsprung and extra weight due to that AWD system, and they aren't making any extra power over GSTs, so any minuscule gain you'll get right out of the hole will be lost by the time you hit the lights.

See that's just it. The AWD ability gain is small because the stock or near stock power can not sustain wheel spin and the engine bogs badly.
Also it has almost twice the powerloss through the drivetrain.
Stock for stock the GS-T is a hair quicker (1-2 tenths) but several mph faster. The AWD system is nothing but a large burden after the first 60'
Now on a moderately modified or better DSM it changes everything because then traction is king verses less weight and parasitic drag.

I've yet to go up against a stock GST or GSX, its so rediculously easy to make those things just balls out faster. I will still maintain though that if you are going up versus a pre 95 gst you should have them if you are a better driver. But then again i just reread your post and saw it was a 98... so... hopefully he sucks

Why? They use the same 4G63 motor, in which, the pre 92 1/2s actually use a stronger version of that motor.
