a high pressure jet of water (about 110 - 130 psi) into the intake manifold. As the latent heat of evaporation of water is 6.5 times that of fuel (2256 versus 350), as it vaporizes in the intake manifolds it absorbs heat, thus lowering the temperature of the air/fuel mixture, and significantly reducing the chances of detonation.
