hey guys, I moved to nyc from boston about a year and ahalf ago and have kept my car stored back home. I have been torn between selling it and getting some needed money and keeping it. I only owe1800 on it (should be paid off next month if I hadn't gotten behind a bit) and now I live with my gf and have been thinking about trying to keep it. I can't get auto insurance quotes easily because I still have a MA license. Do any of you guys live in the 5 boroughs and could tell me what you pay a year for basic insurance and/or full coverage? Once the car is paid off that is $270 a month I don't have to worry about. If I end up paying for a garage space, I would be more inclined to go with basic insurance. If I'm paking on the street I would want full coverage.
trying to see if it is even financially feasible to bring it down. i ahve put so much work in it to maintain it that I probably wont get the value of it back if I sell it, I would rather be able to have the car around for weekend trips and things of that nature.

How old are you? What kind of contour do you have? I pay like $230 a month for full coverage on my SVT, i'm 22 and under my moms insurance. If I were on my own it'd probably be closer to $350 a month.

I'm 26 and I've never insured in NY before. My insurance in MA was high because I had some incidents that go back almost 3 years which is how long you have to go flawless in order for them to put you back to the starting step. Most likely I would register the car in my 29 yo girlfriends name. She has never had any tickets or anything. There is also the possibility that I can register it under her parents address in Albany which should be a bit cheaper

It all depends on how old you are and which boro you live in. I'm 19 and live in brooklyn, it would have cost $9000/year for my 98 mystique. It was a tough decision but I have decided to get the insurance up at school in rochester for 1500/year. This is just for liability and the insurance is under my name.

is that a typo or are you [censored] serious??????
9000 this state is out of control. Obviously I don't NEED a car since I live on the upper east side, but I play baseball in a league in westchester and would like to be able to drive to the beach, atlantic city, or home to MA if I should desire. You can't even rent a car cheap in the city because of stupid liability laws.

I'm upstate near Albany, NY, and I pay $90 a month. However, me and my parents take the total bill and split it 3 ways, so without that I would be paying about $150 on my parent's insurance. Without them, I don't want to know what it would be- upwards of at least $2000 a year. Check out Progressive , they will give you an online quote, or try Geico .
