does anyone have a procedure to remove the shifter from a 1999 svt contour? the 2 front torx screws were real tight trying to back out, so I stopped. The 2000 was easy, but the '99 is a little different. Thanks, Thom

The R&R procedure is the same on every cable shifter.

Should the front two torx scews unscrew? I didn't want to force it, it's not my car. I have a 2000, it took me about 30 mins. to install it in mine. the 99 even looks alittle different but they both use the same shifter. Thanks for your response!!!

You installed one in your car, but don't know if you're supposed to unscrew the two torx screws?

Yes. You are.

Have you had the shifter off on yours? Did the torx screws get harder to loosen the more you turned? On my 2000 they came right off, but the 99 feels like they are close to breaking or stripping, that's why I stopped.

I have a 98. They all came out. Some were harder than others but they all came out.

when ford put the cars together, the used some thread lock on those screws to keep them from working loose. If these screws have never been loosened, they could be a little tight. If you mess them up, or want to change them to hex head (allen wrench), let me know, I've got a box of them. When you install them you should use some thread lock.
