Trade in one of those pistols on a Mossberg 500 series or a Remington 870 and a flashlight forearm and get yourself to a range. Get proficient and work out your home defense plan (i.e. hole up in the bedroom if the alarm goes off or pop out to the hallway or stairway landing). IMHO, the only reason you should even bother using that pistol in a home situation is to cover yourself while you get to your shotgun.
