A shotgun is the best home defence weapon, bar none.

9mm isn't bad at all, as I've got a Sig 228 that I keep loaded with Hydra-Shoks. A human head has the consistency of a head of cabbage and I've made cole-slaw out of a few at the gun range with the Sig.

A good ol' .45 is probably the best "manstopper" out there in a pistol, though. I've got better control over the 9mm and .380 I have, so they stay out of the gun safe and on duty. I'd play around with a .40 S&W and a few .45s, though, just to compare. I like a .45 better than a .40, but that's just me (and I think it's had to do with the guns I've shot in both more than the round itself)...

I'm a recoil wuss and want as much shot control I can get, though. The Sigs have it in spades for the rounds they push. The only 45's that I've shot that were better were comp'd guns and would break the bank...

I own a number of brands of pistols but I've got a shameless love affair with Sig Sauer going on and I don't think it's going to end anytime soon. Take a look at their 226 line, as they pack .40 and .45 in a nice frame that just won't quit.
