If anyone does this mod, PLEASE post a how-to. Every shop I've called has practically laughed at me when I ask about the universal model for our car.
Typical phone call:
me: Do you carry the apex-i universal AFC?
them: yes.
me: Can you install it in a '98 contour?
them: (muffled laughter) Are you serious?
TIA
Followed by "Listen prick, my money's just as green as anyone elses. Besides the fact that I put down more power to the wheels than most of those Hondas have at the crank. Now what are you going to throw in for free to earn my respect back?" cough cough, daydream over...
Find a respectable shop... The install isn't the hard part, the instructions are fairly easy to follow as long as you have a Ford manual to find all of the wires on the 'tour. The hard part is in the tuning, which will be individual for every car and must be done on the dyno because the car's sensors are not "wide band" enough to be able to set this thing up without risking engine damage. Using someone else's setting should only be a starting point from which to dyno tune to be correct for your car.
