I don't know how many people here get Autoweek, but in this weeks edition, April 15, on page 3 there was the headline "Mondeo for Mercury." Basically what the article was about is saying how great the car was selling in Europe, and that as early as 2004 the Mondeo could be rolling onto US streets. Although it will have the Mercury label on it since it is replacing the Mystique. Anyways just thought I would let everyone know and maybe in 2004 someone on here in the US will have a Mondeo.

Well I know I won't be driving one.

The Mondeo has sold well since '93 in Europe and has only gotten better. Here, we have had compromised versions with the build quality of a wet paper bag.

Why am I still taking a 5 yr old car in for recalls ???? Thats not counting all the stuff that hasn't, but should, be recalled. Paint and waterpumps for example.

There are a few cars on/coming to market that will get my cash first. EVO VII, WRX and hopefully Alfa Romeo in a year or two.

I love my car dearly and I don't regret buying it. That said, I haven't had any big issues yet. But I won't buy another Ford.

Regards...

Then you had better be rethinking about an Alfa Romeo. It would be hard to find a worse example of a car that is know for shoddy workmanship.

"Here, we have had compromised versions with the build quality of a wet paper bag."

If there is an '04 Mondeo, it will not be "compromised" and have no parts shared with the old Contours. It's coming from Europe, where it "has only gotten better". Isn't that what a lot of us have been screaming for? Ford is spending millions to improve quality and "I for one" will try them again.

Also, I wouldn't hold my breath wating for Alpha, they are from Fiat and we all know how notorious they are with quality.

Oh, and where did the Contour come from ???
It too, came from the Mondeo, way back in 95, restyled in 98, and had SOOO MANY PROBLEMS, because of the US goverment CHOKING it, and Ford's cost cutting measures, that it ended up being a wet bag.

Mecury Mondeo will be a THINNER Wet Bag, that is dressed up a little better.

FORD will NEVER learn from its mistakes.
