Hello, All:
I've ordered the K&N Air Filter for my 00 SVT. How much extra HP should I get normally, and how much will gas economy increase.
The store told me that the HP increase should be 5-10% and that I should get about 2 mpg better.
Thanks.

K&N normally is worth at max 2hp. It doesn't do much on it own (except add more induction roar), but its when comnined with other mods such as better manifolds and exhaust that it pays off
Mine dynoed at 0 HP increase on my Zetec when fitted

2.5HP is about it, but its an easy & painless first mod.

Dan,
Thanks for the input. After that is done, what would be a next good painless mod? I don't want to spend alot of money (around $100) and don't want to do anything that would make the car louder?
Any suggestions, anyone? Dan or otherwise.. Thanks.

High Flow Y-pipe- Probably best power bang for buck and pretty painless (DIY or easy muffler shop install). Worth 6-10HP depending on type and if you get the kind with high flow cat or no cat (or keep stock cat like MSDS). About $230 for SHO-Shop Y-pipe with highflow cat which will be a bit louder than stock but not much. MSDS, must get from someone who bought the header/Y-pipe set but dosn't need the Y-pipe, about $200, uses stock act so only minimally louder than stock. No cat = louder.
Some people remove the resonator but this is noisy. Catbacks are good but more expensive mods and change the sound quality of the car, so maybe better to avoid if you want stock sound.
Stay tuned, we are just learning about bigger used Mustang 4.6L throttle bodies and MAFs which we can get cheap and may offer benifit but need dyno proof. Would hold off for now, Same with gutting precats and chips - maybe later when we have a bit more info or you have done more research.
Handling, think bigger rear sway bar - see Aussie SVTs group buy on 24mm rear bar. About $120 and addresses the 2 main issues with the SVT handling - understeer & body roll.

I would agree with Dan! Although I have never had mine SVT Dyno'd, the K&N was a noticable difference! Besides...makes it sound REAL GOOD..especially on the track!

As far as mpg goes I have a K&N filter in my car with the stock airbox cut open and I get 22-24 mpg when used for all around driving and I get 28.6 mpg on the eway going 70-75. Recently I got 25 mpg on a 330 mile round trip ride w/ the A/C on, thats really weird to get the drop like that. I'm thinking that the area I was in must have been a little more "hilly"
