I have a Sony 208 watt head unit powering 4- Pioneer 6x9's (The yellow cone ones) and it sound excellent! Withen a few months Ill have the speakers amplified and 3- 10" Audiobahn SQ subs amp'd too.

New speakers definately will do your new head unit justice.

If you have Premium Sound with CD, I would leave that and replace all door speakers. You can do this first, then do more later. I did this first, and was pretty impressed with the results.

^^^ listen to this man...I replaced the two front speakers and left the oem cd player. I recently went to d.c. and the car stays outside, so I haven't put any new hu's, but when I plan to, i'll get a cheapo receiver and an amp by-pass....

It really isn't that expensive man...

kappas off ebay=$50, if not kappas, get some pioneers, they're almost the same price (best price @ walmart if I remember, correctly).

amp bypass= $7, i think
everything here for under $150, not too bad....
