I was checking out mods at SP Motorsports and seen the Pro M 80mm MAF, I think it's pretty new and was wondering if anyone has tried one. I know the Pro M 75mm bullit was dissappointing for most, this seems like a step up. Costs $330 so it better perform, but who knows. Just looking for some input.

a 75mm Mass bullet Mass air (Pro-M's) can support over 450HP worth of airflow... 80mm??? Can you say more overkill...

You will note I mentioned bullet style, not a stock 75mm or 80mm design.

I like mine, but also have the Optimizer... IMO it's essential to tune the car properly...

don't waste your time, that is FAR too large for an anywhere near resembling stock engine.

It's all about balance.

Call up the people over at http://www.musclemotors.com . I paid around $175 shipped for a Composite Pro-M 75mm for my SVT. Even without an optimizer, the car runs great!

hey Michael,
I looked at the Granatelli webpage & it sounds interesting. It appears to have the ability to calibrate itself to your mods, not require the factory to do it (which I dont think they will get right!). Does the SVT use the same unit that the 4.6 Mustangs use? So you like the thing?

I'm interested in the 80mm MAF not for its size, but because SP Motorsports suggests that it doesn't need to be recalibrated half a dozen times.

"With a 45% larger bore than stock, this light-weight plastic direct replacement MAF comes with its own Duratec-specific electronics, a large cotton gauze cone filter (replaces stock air box), all tubing and mounting hardware, and doesn't require custom software! It will support all the upgrades you'll ever do to the Duratec engine. Expect gains of up to 8 hp on stock engines "

For me, it's either the 75mm with the optimizer or the 80mm that "doesn't require custom software". I wonder if that's a good thing or a bad thing...

Frank,

The 75mm unit does not require a custom program according to mods. The only specialized program it needs is to determine wether you are running a stock or KKM type filter.

When I 1st ordered mine, they shipped the wrong one, calibrated to stock filter...car would ping badly above 5000rpm. I sent it back and now have it calibrated for my open-element filter. Car runs stronger than ever with the new meter. Whatever else I add, there will be no need for calibration.

FYI: Same thing happened with my 5.0 Capri about 5 years ago. I purchased Pro-M 75mm bullet and was sent one for a stock filter. The car fell on its face and would not rev over 3000rpm. I had it recalibrated and it worked great....even when I added Heads, Cam, etc.
