I have a interesting question after reading John's latest post. How many IT professionals are members of capital CEG? I have BS in Computer Technology with a concentration in Networking and Systems Administration. Although not currently working in the IT field, but I am looking. It seems almost impossible to find a IT job fresh out of college around here. So my question is what is your major and what are you currently doing with it?

I sorta am. I do some technical documentation for a defense contractor...I'm not involved in programming or administration, but there's some testing and help files and stuff like that.

I teach at a local college in the IT field. It is tough for graduates to get their foot in the door. A security clearance goes along way though since a good deal of IT jobs in this area are with Govt. contractors. We have seen a steady decline in enrollment in our IT programs over the past 2 years. As a matter of fact our parent corporation Kaplan will not allow any of our schools to start new IT Programs if they currently do not have them.

Stay out and go do something else. When I get my degree I am gone.
Now I hate America? That is a new one to me.

College, whats that! LOL! I'm still working on it.
Your best bet is to try and get a clearance and go secured sector. Out of college with no work experience is hard. Most companies want people with experieince. I suggest you find a hlpe desk liek job to get exp and go from there!

The problem with America is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment
for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety
labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I have a BS in Descision Sciences and Management Information Systems. I am currently working as an Applications Systems Analyst for an insurance company. My job basically consists of 50% technical stuff and 50% business stuff. I actually started out working as a Business Analyst but due to my technical background I started getting more involved in the IT side of stuff. It actually worked out pretty well since I am one of the few people in my department that can actually communicate our business requirements to the hardcore IT people. In today's job market it's kind of hard to get hired if you have no prior experience. You might want to try getting a job through a temp agency. I have a couple of friends that started of that way and eventually got hired permanently. They both started working crappy shifts at the help desk but they eventually moved up and are doing very well now.

B.S. Computer Engineering, VA Tech, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, etc... I do IT for two General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems sites.
If you want to get into IT, Co-op. Period. I did my stint with IBM in Research Triangle, NC. It's where I got my first taste of servers and large scale (at the time) RAID arrays, and I was hooked.

Awesome Dan.. in reply to Antonio, i'm currently working as an administrative assitant @ NIH. Although the pay is well, the job sucks. Every where i have applied to so far is asking for 5+ years experience in the field. I guess working where i am at can be considered my foot in the door, although IT positions here are extremely limited..
Nando: I also have a friend that in the same position, he just got a help desk position. But he works the crappiest hours possible 11pm to 8am and FRI, SAT...
