Yup, that's how it went when I was there too.. I had to deal with perfect a**holes. I remember 3 of'em: an asian guy that gave you a direct answer to a problem instead of pointing you in a direction to make you think, the other (named Christian if I remember well) was *always* wrong in his explanations, and the 3rd was downtight nasty: whatever subject you had questions about, in her eye you were thinking wrong, wrong, wrong.

I kinda liked that "learning model" though, I discovered at thaht time that I could learn much faster by myself, provided I could get guidance once in a while.. Hey! Something positive about it!!!

Heh heh... guess it hasn't changed at all then... it's a shame when you think about it though: I was there in 1983, the year the PC came out. We mostly learned mainframe stuff (IBM-360/370), COBOL, APL, PL-I and PL-II, 360/370 Assembler, JCL, Fortran... no, not C, nothing on Unix at all either. I learned that much later, by myself. Talk about "following the industry needs"...

Costs were also alot lower in my time, I'd have to ask my parents about it.. I paid a rather large part of it myself, and my parents the rest of it, but I can't remember the final cost of it.. I'm sure it was way below the 6-7k mark..

Some things never change... I got a job with my current employer 20 years ago because I couldn't get a job (decent or not) with the credentials from CDI. After trying for a few years, I finally gave up and got to my current line of work. Computer knowledge helped alot, but most of what I know was learned after I'd left CDI..

Don't despair, you'll find something you like someday - it might just take ome time!
