This is embarrassing but here we go. yesterday I did several sessions of draining my transmission pan. during one of these drainings I did not refill with 4qts of mercon before starting my contour. Yes I know! The car ran a couple of minutes in park before I came to my senses and shut her down. I wanted to ask some of you here, if in your expertise u think this will come back to haunt me. Does this sound like a scenario were their was scorching of internal components or friction damage. After filling the pan with 4 qts of mercon, I did place a rag across my drain pan when I removed this fluid, and did not find any metal shavings if that means much. I'd appreciate your feedback on this. I'm instituting a mandatory checklist for myself whenever working on my car in the future, im still in disbelief for doing this. Thanks for your time.....

As long as you didn't try to drive around for an extended distance, you should be fine. There really isn't alot of movement inside the tranny, while in park, so no real hugh danger of killing something. Also, since you noticed your mistake quickly, that helped a lot too.

I've seen worse....
Once watched a kid (30 years ago) fill the crankcase of an old chevy with with paint thinner to "clean out the crap." He started it up and revved the hell out of it.
The resulting fire destroyed the car and the 100 year old tree (makeshift engine puller) he had parked under.
Fun dayz...

That kid is probably now a Vice President of one of many major corporations that contribute to Bush/Cheney team!

Geez, keep the political bickering to the CI forum, thanks.
Back on topic, I remember someone recently posting a method of draining the CD4E that involved opening the drain and starting the car to pump fluid out, then shutting it off as soon as it drained four quarts. Not that I'd try that method, myself...

Guys thank you for your posts. You've all shed some light on my blunder. JEDsContour thanks for sharing the memories, I actually laughed and forgot about what i'd done for a moment their.
Speaking of which i've reacently moved out of the house and gotten my own apartment. When i asked the landlord of the complex what the policies were on servicing my car in the parking lot, her mouth dropped and she looked at me like i had leeches coming out of my face. Her reply was basically immediate eviction. Looks like weekends at home to keep the contour up to spec....
