Anyone up for this challenging problem?

I looked thru the posts and could not find this problem. Here's the problem -

98 CSVT

Downshifting from 4th to 3rd the stock shifter goes into 3rd but with much difficulty. Often it pops back out, especially when taking a low speed turn. I can feel the resistance from the shifter to the clutch pedal as the linkage is resisting. 1st gear also pops out of gear on rare occassion- happened today at the gas station.

2nd and 4th feel firmer and much more solid as the shifter feels it is going in there much better than into 3rd or 1st.

What is this? shifter forks? You advice is appreciated.

I also have asked and searched for opinions on what this is... When i go into third gear about 7 out of 10 times it grinds, and it pops out of 2nd and reverse sometimes I have no idea what it is... Some have told me that when it slips out it could be shifter forks, and when it grinds, it could be the throw out bearing.. I dont know!!

Grinding would more likely be synchros than a throw out bearing. At least from what I've experienced and heard.

i have seen something about this somewhere, lemme search around in a couple places and get back to you, but have heard of this prob before
