This post may seem unreal to you guys. But I have a 1996 Contour with about 240,000 miles on it. I have maintained the cart to the "T" it still runs well..except..I have had to replace my waterpump over eight times since in bought it in 1998. It has the same old story it leaks from the weep hole. I have no clue as to why they keep going out like every year.... I have tried all the coolants oils and etc..Anyone have any idea why this will be the ninth waterpump I will have to replace? Im lost and dont know why or how....Your help is needed.

Real hard water in your area or something? Maybe the system is not getting filled properly, immediately after a w/p change? Rebuilt pumps?

1. do you get your pumps from the same source ?
2. are you using 50-50 mixture ?

I replaced the factory one with the 1st timing belt (2yrs ago), mostly for preventive maintenance. Got the new pump from Autozone.
Now I have 170k on the car and the pump started weeping 5-6 months ago. I'm loosing about 1/2 - 1 qt of coolant / 1000 mi. I decided to live with it until it gets more serious... No noise or other sign of trouble yet.

There seems to be a common theme forming with AutoZone parts. Another thread about replacing fuel pumps and now water pumps. Anywho...

I would check out Signature LM and get the Ford replacement waterpump. It looks like they have it for $78.99.

How long are you going between WP's and are you 100% dry during this time? Are you sure it's the pump? In my case I thought my pump was bad, but it was actually the head gasket leaking to the outside of the engine (but it sure looked like it was the WP on first inspection).

Found out I had a small crack in the radiator...Im sure this had no affect on the pump going out...Anyway i put some Bars Leaks Sealant with the pellets in my coolant jug...And something happened that I cannot explain...my temperature guage now reads way cool on the intstrument panel, had it tested and it works fine...and to add to that my fan kicks on way faster than it previously did...new pump is in and working fine by the way

I had to replace mine after swapping trannys. It started leaking immediately afterward. Wierd!
