Your engine slam shift is probably more of a bang shift. I donâ??t know if you have heard, but the CD4E ATX transmission has a bad shift sensor. And you need to replace it. Donâ??t worry, its extremely easy to do, all you have to do is take off the driver side wheel, and you will see a circular/cylinder shaped thinger with a wire attached to it in your transmission, pull power from the battery, and get some pliers and a screwdriver and take out the old sensor, its OK if you break it because... Letâ??s face it; you probably never will use it again. The new shift sensor should just slide in that same hole, Reconnect everything, put the wheel back on and TA-DA! Clean shifts again, you will notice that it shifts at higher RPM's but thatâ??s normal, its better then leaving the old sensor in and destroying your transmission anyways.
Your main problem is listed in the FAQ. The sound of rushing air and power loss can be found
here You will notice that on ALL 1995 Contour's equipped with the V6 have had a Recall for your problem, so it should cost your NOTHING to have it fixed.
And as for you bang shift problem I donâ??t think there is anything listed in the FAQ for it (though there should be something there, since itâ??s an extremely common problem). But post a message in the transaxle forum, tell them that you have a "bang shift" going on, and ask for the part number for the new shift sensor. Even if you donâ??t have a bang shift, or itâ??s not that apparent, you should do it anyways because long term abuse will result in later transmission problems. I am assuming you have the ATX transmission because you talk about how IT shifts, and not you. I hope this was as of some help to you, even if I was wrong about one of the problems, I still helped somewhat with it.
