My dad has a 92 S-10 with a 4 cylinder. It's rather slow and ugly but the engine has served us rather well considerign it's at 151k.

I had a 2001 with the 2.2L engine. Had absolutely no problems with it besides an unproperly lubed piece of the suspension that was fixed by the dealer for free. No engine problems at all. I put an intake on mine. Added some power. Nothing special tho. Great truck. I loved it. Mine was the sport side regular cab and had a sports suspension and premium wheels and tires....all stock. I miss it! ha

IIRC the eXtreme is just an appearance package that can be added to any S10. I owned a S10 for about 4 years in college and loved it. Put a transmission in at ~160k and that was about all. Sold it with nearly 200k on the odo. The extended cab eXtreme's are VERY attractive IMO. Sadly the ride quality of all S10's is typical 80's truck. But if you put the air bag suspension with a new rear 3-link in...

The 4.3 V6 has been around for what, a century or two? Even if you have some mechanical problems with one I can't imagine it being that expensive due to the volume of those trucks on the road.

There is a Floridian CEG'r who used to have one, maybe he can chime in...

I had a 95 s10 4cyl 5sp, and it is slooooow. You'd be much happier with the 4.3 even if it is automatic.

Also I believe the extremes come with ZQ8 suspension so they ride pretty nice.

I had two of the S-10 4x4s for work. HUGE turning radius (no excuse for that), the trim parts were always falling off of the interior, but they were otherwise relatively reliable.

My biggest gripe other than the above ( and the biggest reason I got rid of them ) was their poor safety ratings. Two or three stars for frontal impact - I pass. The ones I had were 98s.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
