I've just started trying to troubleshoot the crappy idle problem with my car and was going to start with something that would seem simple, the PCV valve. My Haynes provides virtually no guidance on how to find it other than "under the exhaust manifold, at the oil separator". And in Chiltons, it details a long, arduous process that involves removing the cat and a bunch of other stuff to get at the oil separator, removing the oil separator and then the PCV valve.

I tried searching for specfics on how to find it and couldn't find anything that led me to actually seeing it. I tried looking from underneath and from above, but couldn't find it, and don't really have much of an idea of what I am looking for. So do I really have to work that hard to get to it (on a Zetec)? I thought it was a simple pop-in, pop-out kind of deal. And what is the best route to get to it, preferably without taking apart other things?
