What happens when a temp sensor starts to go? For some reason, the car is saying its at the R in normal, but the fan isn't kicking on when I am driving. But when I pull in my driveway and put it in park and let it idle for a few, if it gets between the O and the R the fan kicks on. Sounds to me that maybe the sensor is on it's way out. Any ideas? Thanks!!

I wonder if the thermostat is sticking or something Theres a place by my work, called North Gratiot Auto Electric that does great work, they found and fixed my short and the place is VERY clean, which is important to me and shows they care about their customers Although I've only been their once, I'll be going there again and if you go there, tell them the guy with the striped Contour SVT sent you, their VERY nice people. FWIW, have you flushed the cooling system lately

The thermostat is new and the coolant has been flushed last year when I got the water pump done....I just don't understand why the heck the fan doesnt kick on when driving....its driving me nuts.....

My temp gauge goes to AL most of the time. Several shops have said it is running fine and isnt anywhere near that hot. It could be -5 outside, half mile driving, and the thing would read L, it is such a piece of [censored] anyways.

As for my fan kicking on, sometimes they do sometimes they dont. Depends if they fell like it, when I put the A/C on high they do, but I cant leave it like that for long as the car is hard to accelerate with A/C on high.

It has never gotten that hot before and the fan has always kicked on when it has gotten to the OR range. That is why I am wondering WTF is going on. I have a Duratech so I think they run a little differently then the Zetec.

You might wanna PM John (5speedmotorlessSE) and ask him about this as he's already changed his out and yes, he too has a Duratec. His gauge was all messed up too and once he replaced it, it was all good

the only prob with my car was the temp sending unit for the guage display. when it failed the guage just read all the way hot. it didnt move at all. i dont know whats the deal with your car...

Damn! Thanks John. I think I am gonna just change the sensor and see if that helps. I read that it sends a signal to the ECM regarding coolant temp so maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe its not sending the right signal to the fan. Does anyone know what the deal is? Thanks.
