I have a 98 svt contour with 107000 miles on it. Its production date was August of 97. I know for a fact that there was a recall on 97 wiring on standard contours. Almost all of the engine wiring is bare. The jacketing has peeled completely off. I have already replaced one of three main wiring harness. Any ideas on what to do would be great.
Thanks,
Nick

I'm thinking yours was part of the recall because it was built in 97. You have 107,000 your sh!t out of luck man, it only went to 100k. As for what to do, well you can drive it till it goes no more then part the thing out. Or you could go to a salvage yard buy a harness swap and them out, or do the most expensive thing and buy a whole new harness.
Ford is pretty cheap though, only did the recall on 3 years and only up to 100k. They should have made it for 98s as well and for the mileage thing, how about 250k or better yet unlimited. People paid $18,000 at least for a new car that should last a long time not to have some piece of [censored] car. I'm almost certain that anyone who couldnt get the recall done because they were over 100k, will never again buy another Ford. It is easy to see why Chevys sell more than Ford, Ford just wants to sell cars and be done, Chevy will take care of their customers, they just did a recall eariler this year on ignition switches. I believe it covered some cars from 95 even, [censored] Ford would never think of recalling anything from a 95, thats why Cehvy sells more vehicles.
Wiring harnesses should never fail my uncle has over 250k on a Toyota pickup and it has almost everything original, wiring harness, engine, trans.
I went to Ford.com and entered the vin for my 98 contour and it said that there is no recall on safety or emissions. How do I find out about any other recalls other than those two? I am approaching 99,000 miles.
Thanks,
Dan
