Hi,

I've done a search for this scenario but can't find anything about it.

Someone cut in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes. The ABS light came on and the A/C blower motor just stopped. No blower at all for heat/air/panel.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a blown fuse?

Thanks,

Marc

Hi Marc,

I have a 1998 Contour SE with manual trans
and anti-lock brakes. I had this problem occur too.

You probably blew the main ABS fuse. The ABS pump
and fan/blower share the same fuse unfortunately. The
fuse is not a normal fuse that you can easily
replace. I took mine to the dealer and it cost about
$50 bucks to replace the fuse (a few years ago).

The problem is that this fuse will blow again
unless you have your antilock system fixed. If
it is the antilock pump, it will cost alot to fix
($1000?).

Luckily, there is a second fuse for the antilock
system which when removed disables the antilock
system (abs light will be on though).

What I did was had the dealer replace the large
fuse so I got my blower motor back. The dealer
was reluctant to do this, because the knew the fuse
could blow again. But I told them of my idea to
remove the second smaller fuse to disable the antilock
system and they agreed that this should work.

So dealer replaced the main fuse and pushed my car into
the parking lot so as not to blow the fuse again.
I then removed the smaller antilock fuse and have
had not problems since (other than no antilock
brakes).

Hope this helps!
