I stopped by two stereo shops last Sat. and they listened to my car, I've got two Alumapro Alchemy twelves with a Cadence A5-HC pushing them. 600watt mono amp. All I hear is that my subs are underpowered. They are suggesting a 1000 watts instead of 600 for the subs. They are wanting to sell me a 1000 watt xtant amp for $1000 my subs have a 300 watt RMS. Does it sound like my subs are being underpowered or are they just trying to make some $. My car is pretty loud but Why spend the money on the subs and possibly be underpowering them. I can't see spending a grand on the xtant, I'm just wondering if these subs do need the watts.

Are we talking 1000 watts PEAK or 1000 watts RMS? Those aren't the same thing.

If they're saying 1000 watts RMS, they're trying to oversell you.

The subs handle 300 watts? You are providing 300 watts? If I am reading this correctly, you are not underpowering them. For 1000.00, you will gain your self 2 dB in total output. Not worth it, especially not for the money.

BTW, put 1000 watts to the sub for extended periods of time, and you will probably have warped VCs.

First, how do you like the way the system sounds. Are you happy? If you want more bass maybe reconfigure your box, a slot ported box tuned (most cookie cutter round port Curcuit City boxes are crap tuned to 45hz Yuck) in the low 30's would give you 2-4db gain without $1000 missing from your wallet.

Second is the A5 and Class D amp? if it is, they are not digital and wont be as clean as a regular class AB amp causing "coloration" or bascally more distortion.

It is hard to underpower a speaker to the point where it becomes bad for the woofer. I think you'll be fine with the amp you have, but you may want to look into a different box.

First, bench racing, now bench audio. The only thing that matters is if you like the sound. If someone wants to argue that it's not enough power, then tell them to sit in your bac kseat. If that's still not enough to convince them, tell them to buy their own car and buy the $1000 amp and your Alchemy drivers. If you're happy, leave it.

600W is enough for a microwave to cook your dinner. I'm sure it would be just as good at cooking your VC. Then you get the scratchy bass! smile These guys are knobs and have probably lost thier hearing by now "Hey Beavis, lets hook this sub up to 1000W! Heh Heh you said hook! Heh heh! Shut up Nimrod!"
