Hi all,

I have a 1381 code comming up. That relates to a camshaft position timing issue. The engine is a Zetec, with 380K km. The timing belt was changed at about 220K.

Any ideas on what I should be checking for?

Thanks!

You changed your belt 160,000km ago? holy cow!

Is the belt lose, chipped, showing signs of wear?
The belt could be done or the cam sensor is toast.

This is just an opinion, but I would get a new belt put on and then see if you get another code for the cam sensor.

Yip, 160K. I continue to be amazed at that engine. I havn't taken a close look at the belt, but I do expect that it's probably more than time for it to be changed. I was thinking that it would be best to change the belt first, and then test again, as you recommended.

I'm also going to do an engine flush, just in the event that there's sludge in the solenoid, but since I'm quite religious about oil changes (5,000km), it might be time for the solenoid. Has anyone had any success in pulling the connector off and testing it?

Cam sensor... humm... Not a bad idea either.....

Thanks!
