Yes I know there was a post just last week about this, however I'm glad I read about it, because it seems I am a candidate for this problem.
Anyways, I have been having some problems with the contour. I have a 99se, atx. About 2 months ago, I like many others, was just driving and the radio reset
itself. I didn't think much about it at the time, as the radio came back on a
few minutes later. Anyways, in the progression of 2 months, I have been having
the clicking sounds while in park and in drive while holding the brakes.
Anyways, to make matters worse, I am currently in Maryland on an internship at
the NIH (I reside in Detroit, MI). So I am basically tool-less. I am thinking
of taking the car to a gas station and seeing if the guy will help me with the
multimeter. Could you please specify where fuse 34 is? I have not had time to
do any investigating, but I believe this fuse is located in the box, itself,
correct? I have been smelling smoke coming from the hood, for the past few
days, so I am assuming it isn't located on the driver's side near the pedals. Could
you please specify the fuse, itself? Perhaps color, relative size, etc. I'm not sure why but the other day I was at Tazi's place and we were replacing the fuel filter, anyhow, we looked up which fuse to pull out to depressurize the system. As we opened the fuse box, it looked absolutely nothing like the diagram shown in the how-to under duratec maintenance. I'm assuming ford did some electrical changes on the 99s and up? It's nto a big deal, as long as I can locate the fuse itself in the fuse box. But I'm just wondering about the different setup.
When it comes to electronics, I do not have much know-how. Can you guys please
specify how to test the resistance and voltage of the fuse? i.e. where to
placed the diodes on the fuse? Also, what numbers should I be looking for in
terms of resistance, obviously approx. 12 volts. Do you guys by chance know if the
Haynes manual has a schematic, or some references regarding to this fuse?
So if the fuse is bad, I simply, reset the computer, place the new fuse, and I
should be good, is that correct? I appreciate any help you guys can offer me.
