hey guys... I got some trouble.

I got in touch with everyone's friend Bill Jenkins for a fuel pump for my 99CSVT (build date 7/99) He hooked me up with the fuel pump in no time at all (The guy rocks!!) Anyway, I take it to my mechanic and he compares the 2 pumps. There are some slight differences, which lead the mechanic to believe its not gonna fit. I called around to some dealerships and they do list (P#:XS2Z 9H307 AH) as the right pump, but have *(P#: XS2Z 9H307 CA) listed in a foot note as a revised version, supposidly its an upgrade from **(P#:XS2Z 9H307 AH).

So I guess what I'm trying to find out is if anyone has run into this, or has any suggestions for me to give the mechanic as to why the pumps are structurally a little different. And actually, if there is anything at all that you can think of that might help me work through this situation I would appreciate it.

Part Numbers
* the old pump: XS2Z 9H307 AH (original)
** the new pump: XS2Z 9H307 CA ( the one I got from Bill)

Thanks!
Mully

Why did you waste your money on another stock pump?

The -CA is just a newer revision of the exact same returnless pump. (9H307)

Well to be honest, I'm looking to sell as soon as the repairs are complete.

I've had the dreaded FDM (Fuel Deliver Module) problem with my 9/99 Contour V6. It used to be that it was o.k as long as I kept 1/2 or more of a tank of gas in the car. But on a recent trip through NC, even with a full tank, the car would lose power after 10 minutes and I had to wait on the side of the highway for a few minutes for the pump to cool so that it would pump again.

I found the latest pump part number on this site XS2Z-9H307-CA
and went and picked one up from the local dealer ($250). I thought of using the focus pump but was hoping that the new design may alleviate the real problem - a bad sock pickup design.

Included with the new FDM is a new ring, gasket and many other parts to replace little parts when pulling the tank, etc. Also included was a 12 page set of instructions on how to remove the tank, cut the retaining ring off of the bottom of the tank (with a special tool that isn't included) so that the new pump can actually fit in the tank.

The parts bags and the instruction set mention the word "program". As in replacement program. However, I think the program they are referring to is the Cougar Program 04N02:

Since the Cougar and the Contour/Mystique share the same fuel pump (and probably the same tank) I'm wondering why the Contour/Mystique are not included in the Program, as the Contour/Mystique have the same problem (stalling, hesitation, loss of power, surging), and the problem is definitely fuel level related (much worse below 1/2 tank than above).

I'm contacting Ford Customer Service about this. I would encourage all 99-2002 Contour/Mystique owners to do the same to see if we can force the issue and get them to expand the program to the Contour/Mystique.
