And I do mean persistent. Over the last six months I have replaced the camshaft position sensor, cleaned the direct wire connector contacts several times, cleaned the wire harness connectors at the spring tower several times, (all three of them) and that dang blasted code keeps coming back.

My Mystique was made in 02 of 97. It is a '98 V6 model. Does it seem possible that the wire harness guarantee applied to my car and that that is the problem?

The rest of the wire harness seems to function proprerly. could a fuse or something be involved...?

I had thought of direct wiring the sensor but do not know how to or what to do.

This is making me crazy....

Wanted to update this post by adding that the problem has now been fixed. What it turned out to be was that the wireing harness was damaged by an engine hook ( a part that is worse than useless)that was placed on the cylinder bank next to the firewall. The cheap rubber "guard" slipped off at one time and exposed a sharp edge to the harness that presses against it and the damage occurred. It was not enough to completely sever the wire, it only removed the insulation on one of the camshaft position sensor wires and one other wire. The engine hook was discarded as well. The CEL no longer entertains me and the duratec is strong again!
