OK before anyone gets excited, I know where the door sticker is and how to read it. The problem is that the 96 LX I'm repairing is missing the sticker. The link below goes to a picture of it. I think the code is "FL", but that's only if the name of the color is Toreador red. Honestly, I'm not even sure what the name of it is or how many shades of red were available on the Contours in 96. I have two other red ones that are darker shades. I'm hopeing that someone on the list will have the same color Contour and is kind enough to check their door sticker for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Al

that is t-red...code FL on my 2000, I'm assuming it would be the same for a '96. Dunno if they changed it slightly if at all over the few years.

Thats a salvage, geez hardly seems to be much damage. Hood, grille, headlight, parking light, bumper maybe, and thats about it.

No. Toreador Rd began in 98. It was electric red in 95-97.

I thought I read where it was different...guess so.
It doesn't take much to total an older contour...book value is in the crapper. I bought my 2000 totalled w/ 30,000mi $1600, I've only put a total of $2500 in it (including purchase price). Would've been less if I went w/ the non-SVT bumpers.

Actually, electric red was only offered in 95. 96-00 are all toreador red (i.e. FL).

That's the same info I came up with. Thanks!
Regarding the car being salvage, it doesn't take much for a car to be totaled these days. With labor rates these days it's easy to get the cost of repair way up there. This 96 LX only has 50K miles and is loaded w/leather, V6 etc.. All it needs is a hood, headlight, front bumper cover, and headlight support. The a/c is still holding it's charge even! I buy a lot of Contours in about the same condition. I actually just bought from the auction a GL that just needed a fender. Ofcourse they have salvage titles that need to be cleared, which here in NY costs $115. and about a 6 month wait. I keep some for about 10K miles, which is about 3 months(comuter car)and other ones I sell as soon as they are done. Anyway, thanks for the help with the paint code!! Al

Here's what I found out today while at the autobody supply shop today. T-red is actually a Nissan color(Nissan has a different name for it) and there are 6 alternate shades. If any of you with the "FL" paint code ever have to get paint mixed, make sure you bring the fuel door or another painted part of the car to match up the correct shade. It's not uncommon to have several alternates, but I was suprised to see the difference in color from the "standard" mix to alternate 6 mix. A slight difference can be blended, but this was drastic. Anyway, just thought I'd share the info. Al

I know the 96-97 T-red differs from the 98-00 T-red.
