The heater blower switch in my 95 Contour worked fine at all selected modes until last night. The selector switch was stuck at the high position and required a bit of force to move it back to low.I suspect the switch is toast. The blower does work at Lo, and at Med Lo . Will not operate at Hi nor at Med Hi . But.. if the selector is first set at Hi and then moved back to Med Hi, the Med Hi level will work.(please note that the console does not indicate LO, Med Lo etc, just the positions, but you all know that anyway )
I would request verification that its the switch and not the resistor.
Thankyou in advance

Yeah its the switch, same damn thing happened to me. It is under extended warranty ya know, if your car has less than 150,000 miles on the clock.

Thanks for the recall info.
I went out to my car and found the original Ford of Canada campaign letter dated Sept 25, 2001.Its in reference to "Customer Satisfaction Program , 01M07" .It applies to "certain 1995, 1996,and 1997 Model Year Contours and Mystique vehicles".
01M07 provides "additional coverage on the heater blower switch for 10 years of service or 240,000 kms from your vehicle's original warranty start date, whichever occurs first".That would be 150,00 miles for our US friends.
My Contour was manufactured in March 1995, and its only got almost 230,000 kms on the OD.I don't know the service in date, but I'm still in under the time/mileage limit.
Take care

Positive update here.
I booked in to Dan Murphy Ford in the Ottawa, On. , Canada, area this am for 4pm today. I was in and out in 30 minutes for what I thought would be an assessment only. The fan control was replaced as per the Ford campaign and I was on my merry way.
For all those Ford/Mercury owners in the Greater Ottawa area,I would reccomend the Dan Murphy service department for your Ford service requirements.
Thanks Hitman for the heads up on the extended warranty.

the blower switch is an easy fix if you want to do it yourself....remove stereo and screws will be evident...the switch is like $5 and just plugs in. Before the switch went...did you get a stinky burnt plastic smell in your car? If so...then the switch is definately at fault...sounds like the switch from your post.
