I changed the plugs yesterday for the first time and had to unscrew the IMRC for easier access to the front bank. So tonight I finally revved up far enough and the secondaries would not open. Unplugged the clip to the IMRC and reconnected, and then they open the first time the car goes over 4k, but later on they dont (like the FAQ says). Park my car for a couple hours, drive off, and the secondaries seem to work consistently. Weird. The only problem now is that the car's acceleration seems to "pulse" at times. What's going on?

I want to rule out the butterflies physically sticking because of the fact that I just moved the IMRC box yesterday...but who knows. Also, I removed the cover of the IMRC box because I heard a clicking noise everytime I moved it, but I found out it was only the gears shifting around.

Lastly, the acceleration has pulsed in the past, but not as conspicuously as it is now.

After resetting the PCM and going for a test drive, the secondaries will only open the first time after the car is started (floored it from a dead stop, they opened in first, car shifted to second, secondaries closed, nothing after that).

So, according to the FAQ, do I need a new IMRC? If so, Im flabbergasted as to how its possible for that POS box to be that fragile...

I am not sure if this helps, but make sure it has a good ground to the engine. Sand the surfaces where it mates to get a good connection

My 2000 svt does the same thing at times. How many miles does you car have on it ? Mine has 63K on with new factory long block with about 12k miles on it do to the crappy plastic water pump. The secondaries would seem to open up once and pull from 4K rpm+ then after that they would not open and the motor would rev with out the strong pull above 4K rpm's. then i removed the cover of the silver imrc or icrm box and noticed the top left hand quarter of the circuit board had a black burn mark on it , not on the silver circuit conectors just the top left portion of the green circuit board itself. this can't be good.

i lubed the gears with three in one oil and it ran great for three months. then the problems arose again. i lubed the gears again and now the secondaries open 70% of the time the other 30% the engine just revs. maybe i need a new imrc box or maybe i should replace my fuel pump which i have also had a lot of problems with . i'm going to get the
focus svt fuel pump as soon as i get the $100 for it from the dealer. it took the dealer 1 month to track down a fuel pump gasket the green circle one for me. at the moment i'm still using the old gasket which i fit back on the ring the best i could.

I believe the fuel pump is and important factor in the secondaries opening up. I'll let you know if it fixes it this coming weekend.

Does anyone know how much the imrc box with cable is from the dealer at retail price ?

same problem on my '00svt. Replaced the fuel pump and no help; replaced the imrc...$130 from dealer and that solved the problem.. is good as new now. My imrc also had the black spot on the electronics.

Odd as it may be, but the secondaries have worked regularly since I posted last on this thread *knocks on wood*
