A while back a friend of mine had a Porsche 914. It was a t-top variety so the structure flex was an issue. He contacted a supplier who sold structural epoxy foam who pumped the foam into his 914 body cavities. Volla, very stiff structure.
Keeping that in mind, I'm wondering if we can achieve similar results with something less exotic. I was thinking of the Great Stuff foam with minimal expansion( read maximum strength ) type. If I can fill the rocker panel, the cross members and the pillars with the foam, I think we can significantly increase the stiffness of our Contours.
This will improve many things but the first two benefits are better handling( much more predictable ) and reduced noise( less flexing - less noise ). What do you think?

Its been done by several on this board, with a foam found at Home Depot (I know that DemonSVT has done it). I don't recall if the foam thing was posted in the Suspension or General Performance forumns..

Yeah Demon used some stuff he found at Home Depot that is stronger than Great Stuff but I have yet to been able to find it. There's stuff sold on the internet for like $30 a can and it would take three or four cans. Maybe the Great Stuff is good enough though.

Watch yourself on that one. It has to be a foam that will not allow water to penetrate the foam. That's where the proper stuff comes in. It has been used to great effect by Sport Compact Car on their 300zx. http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/projectcars/0006scc_proj300zx/And also by a fellow with a really nice Z31 did some work with it. http://z31.com/articles/5/Both are Nissan engineers. Me, I'd spend the cash on the right stuff. It isn't that much more money, really.

There was a thread on this a long time ago and I couldn't find it. But anyway, it had a link to an automotive foam deal. I changed internet providers so my favorites were lost. Anybody know what I am talking about? I know vague

Not much more money? Maybe not to someone that has a CSVT, but to someone with a 96 zetec it is.

People on this forum is way too fast for me. Looks like every one who knew about this posted already except for one notable person, Demon, who apparently IMPLEMENTED this mod to his contour. I would like to hear his feedback. Or, if you can give me the thread(title, date, or..,) I will look it up. Thanks. (So there was merit to the concept after all )

It's not much more money at all, even if you blew all of your money on FMS Wires, UDP, MSD, CTA Intake, SVT sway bar, Superchip, Roush Springs, 17" Rage 5.0s, Optimized TB, Adj. Cam Gears, Corbeau A4s, RSTB, CF Hood.
That said, Demon told me that the stuff he got at Home Depot worked.

So is anyone going to talk substance or are we in a joking mood at this point?
I'd like to know a keyword to search for the Demon's mod and results( as he apprently used the Home Depot stuff? ) Or, have someone else speak up with his experience.
Any takers?
