i have a 1999 contour svt duratek 2.5L 108,000 miles
problem: car will start then die right away, but if i keep my foot on the accelerator it will stay running. i can hear the fuel pump running, do not have a guage to check. there are no mil lights on . i have an obdII scanner but not sure what to look 4. any advice?

Welcome Lucas, your problem seems similar to the start of this thread. Have you changed the fuel filter in the past 2 years? You may also want to clean the MAF sensor and IAC valve.

this sounds exactly what i had before. (start and then dead, usually i got it when it was wet)
i had corrosion on many pins of the pcm. had to replace pcm.
its not hard to take connector out and to take a look.

thanks for the tips, my contour svt is up and running again. i decided to pull the iac off and clean it with some carb cleaner, turns out that the rod had alot of carbon build up on it. after cleaning and reinstalling it the car runs like it should.
