I am really annoyed by the dimming of my lights, and every forum i've been to say that upgrading the "big 3" will help alot. I don't want to do it myself, so is there anyone in or around Central Ohio that knows how to do this and will be willing? I have a 99 contour with a 4cl engine. Let me know.

What are the "Big 3"? Last I heard of the Big 3 (USA, Great Britain, and Russia) was WWII. I hope it's not WW3 and I slept through it!



On topic, I reckon you're talking about the battery, alternator, and what else? The battery would be the easiest upgrade. The Contour's alternator is rated at 135A, which is the highest passenger car's OEM alternator. You should never need to upgrade to a higher output alternator unless you're Dean Joyce. I remember from your install you have a JBL BP1200, which does have a serious current draw, 114A, IIRC. Anyway, either get a cap (or a bigger one, I can't remember if you've got one installed or not) or upgrade your battery to a deep cycle Optima Yellow Top.

the big 3 is battery to chassis ground, chassis to engine/tranny ground, and alt to battery pos

Extra ground wires will never hurt.

I mean the wires that go from alternator to battery to ground. However, do you think installing an Optima Yellow Top without upgrading the wires will work?

It will but it would work better if you did upgraed them. Why only do half the job?

Chris is right. The Yellow Top will make a difference on its own, as will just upgrading the wiring. If you do all of it, that will make the biggest difference.

laziness :-D What do I have to remove to be able to have access to these wires that need replaced?

removing the airbox should give u better access to the batt ground to chassis and also the chassis to tranny. the alt to batt pos is the tough one i believe
