I was planning on getting a bottle of EZ Charge R-134a to recharge my A/C, but I want to make totally sure I know where to hook it up before I get it. Can you give me a general location?

It's a '97 Duratec

Low side is closer to the battery, the high side is to the left as you face the engine from the front.

Thanks guys... I saw the high side, but wasn't sure if that was the port I needed.

Connecting a can of freon to the high side can cause it to rupture (blow up). R-134 Freon can cause permanent blindness.

It pays to be sure you REALLY know which port is which and to use eye protection (faceshield).

Fortunately the high and low side connectors are shaped differently on modern cars, requiring unique connectors.

On 60's cars the connectors were identical, causing much equipment damage and injury.

I'm assuming I did it correctly since my air is now much cooler and I can still see. The ports on my car both look the same, so I am really glad I asked which was which before I went ahead with this.

On a related note, the guy working at the NAPA store where I bought the can said he was getting in a new product (silicone) which is inserted in the same manner and acts as a catalyst of some sort to decrease the time it takes for the cooling to actually begin. I'm going to get some of that stuff when he gets it in.

Ooh, be careful, that sounds a lot like "snake oil" to me. I would like to know the actual mechanics of that. IMHO if your system is adequately cooling you - be happy and don't mess with dubious "improvement" products.

Good point. I am going to find out the name of it and try to find some reviews on it before I spend the $.
