I have noticed that the 98 4 cylinder has a different configuration than the previous engines.

Unfortunately my Haynes manual documents the pre '98 engines.

Can anyone tell me where the starter is? Is it under the the air filter or plenum?

Thanks,
Tara

The stater is under the intake manifold IIRC.

Thanks. We are trying to take the water pump out, and because there is such little room we have to remove the crankshaft pulley. We thought we would wedge something in the flywheel to lock the pulley wheel, but then it says you have to remove the starter to get to the flywheel. Now we will try to get under the air intake to get to the starter.

So swallowed the spider to catch the fly kind of thing...

Have you by any chance done your water pump?

Thanks,
Tara
