i have a '98 contour LX, i love my car, but i also love my bass, i have recently added a 1 farad power cap to my stereo, and also a new set of subs and another amp. since the day i put in the new subs, i have had low idle probs. normaly my car idles @ around 750 rpm, then suddenly it will drop to 400-500 then die if i dont rev it up. its only done this twice, but i know its a power problem. has to be, and it is still the original motorcraft batt. i plan to replace it with a optima red top within the next two weeks, but i want to also upgrade my charging system. does anyone have anyclue how hard it is and the steps to replace the alt. on a duratec 2.5? it appears to be way the he** at the bottom of the engine, next to the strut tower and directly above the a arm, which i belive should be a real blast to replace it. any help would be appriciated.

The stock alternator is pretty good. Try upgrading all your wiring first. Battery + and -, and alternator.
