Had a guy offer to sell me a 91 Accord. Figured I could use it as a third car since it seemed reliable. He's trying to tell me that it has a 3.8 L (4 cylinder) engine in it and that somehow that's stock (but special factory order)
I'm thinking 1) pretty much nobody makes 3.0+L 4 cylinder engines at all 2) It has to be an aftermarket modified engine
He's a mechanic that owns his own shop - and I've heard him talk about the GM 3800 V6 more than a few times. I'm wondering if when I finally get to pop the hood I'll either:
1) Find a V6-3800 (GM) 2) Find a stock 2.2L V4 (Honda)
At this point,I'm thinking that if it's anything other than a stock engine, it's going to need some extra lookin-over or just pass -- special engines tend to mean 'special people' drove it that probably abused it.

I think that Lotus made 4 bangers well over the average size. But Honda?
(newer Accords may have a 2.4L 4-cyl, IIRC)

i'd have to call bs. My old taurus had a 3.8 V6 and i thought that was big for a six cylinder. By the way, those 2.2L hondas are inline four's, hence no "v."

Naw, there's a 4.2L standard in the new Mercury Monterey minivan. That's pretty big.
But a 3.8L four-banger? That's way too many cubes for only four pots! I'll have to raise the BS flag on this one too. Porsche, IIRC, had a four-pot that was +/-3.0L, but nearly 4 litres is way too much.

I know its not a stock engine like were talking about, but a lot of people (including my dad very soon) swap in AMC 258 crankshafts into the Jeep 4.0 HO engine to make a 4.8 liter I-6. Talk about stout: iron block, pushrods, naturally balanced I6 design and 7, count em 7 main bearings. sheista!
