I purchased the camber kit about a year ago and am still having the same problem with inner tire wear. im going to set the camber to 0 degrees for optimal tire wear since i do alot of highway driving. i have access to an alignment rack and was wondering how to adjust the camber kit since when i bought it i had a independant shop install and adjust it to the -1 and a half degree or so ford spec calls for. i have 4 new tires on the way monday so any help will be appreciated. thanks

The top strut mount is now on an excentric. You alter both caster and camber by rotating the top mount. The instructions call for jacking the body up by the pinch weld to get the front wheels off the ground before making the adjustment. The adjustment is made by turning the top mount with a 3/8" ratchet wrench after removing the new covers above the strut tower (under the hood).

So basically, you take a reading, jack up the front end by the body, not the suspension, rotate the top mount and guess where it should be on both sides, lower the car and take a reading again and repeat as needed until you have acceptable caster and camber readings.

When mine was done, the tech doing the work was experienced enough with alignment (although he had never used this kit before) that he got the readings right on the first readjustment.

After the caster and camber are dialed in, set the toe. Finish up by reinstalling the covers over the strut towers.

You can also find instructions on the Specialty Products web site. http://www.specprod.com/ Follow the link and then look up your car to find the application and the instructions.

so the front end is supposed to be raised to make the adjustments? did i miss that on the directions? i dont recall the shop doing this each time i've gotten an alignment and i give them the instructions each time. but they take it for a test drive after to check the alignment.

Not to highjack this thread, but I also do alot of highway driving and have a problem with inner tire wear. I've recently had the local tire shop do a Toe alignment to my specs. Now the front is set 1/16" Toe-In instead of the factory spec of ~1/8" Toe-Out.

I did notice it lost some smoothness on turn-in on tight corners and doesn't have the same overall handling characterist as before. However, on the highway the straight line driving is fine and it tracks well. I guess only time will tell if this going to help prevent the saw-tooth inner tire wear. I'll be sure to post an update after I log some miles.

You won't solve the inside edge wear problem until you reduce the negative camber. I played with the toe setting for some time before installing the camber adjusting kits. Now the tire wear is extremely even. At least that has been my experience.

I wish those camber plates fixed my "tram riding" effect of the car steering itself over bumps and ridges in the road too

I just installed them so the verdict is still out on whether they help my uneven tire wear or not.

Tram riding is all in the tires.
