I am considering returning to school to get a degree in Industrial Design... Getting to help design the products we see and use really intrigues me. Is there anyone in here in the industrial design field? or anyone going to school for industrial design?

I am considering two schools, one local and one not local...
1. Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design - Local - http://www.miad.edu -- Seems to have a more prestigous name, more difficult to get into, requires a portfolio review upon admission and i have no such portfolio.

2. Academy of Art College - San Francisco - http://www.academyart.edu/ -- Would be nifty to get away from wisconsin for a while, they have an automotive design department and are partnered with a couple car companies.

Both schools are roughly the same cost, tuition wise, both about 25k a year.. Which is damn expensive! Any suggestions on other good art schools (with an ID program) that may be less expensive?

Both are great schools with positive industry reputations. I think Art Center is perhaps more highly regarded. A third consideration should be CCS (Center for Creative Stidies) in Detroit.

Right on par with the Art Center.

If you're considering a move to SF, why not look into CSU Long Beach? We (I'm a '98 Alum- not in ID, though) have had one of the top ID and graphic programs for quite a while now, as far as state schools go.... DIRT cheap compared to private.... Out of state fees might get you, though....

I have some fellow CSULB alum buddies in both ID and graphic that work with and for some of the heavies in the industry. *PLUS* it's really fun to spot their work while shopping, driving and watching movies.
