I recently acquired a 99 taurus engine from a technician in my shop that had wrecked his taurus. After pulling the engine I noticed the waterpump is not camshaft driven. Is it possible to use this block for the swap, and if so what needs to happen for this to work? I know I should probably post on the 3L discussion page, but I would rather hear what you guys had to say first. Also does anyone know a good machine shop around the VA/DC/MD area so I can get some head work done? Any response would be appreciated.

the 3L forums are going to have a lot of the answers to your questions. I would actually recommend the NECO 3L forums (forums.fastcougar.com), as they have a whole load of FAQs on what you can use, what you can't, and how to do it.
The easist 3L swaps are the Escape motors. If you plan on a hybrid, then it really doesn't matter, 'cause you'll be using your heads on the 3L block. Either way, to do it right, you'll need some holes in the block filled (welded & resurfaced is the only way I'll do it), the pilot bearing cut (not pressed) out, Clevite rod bearings for longevity, and a good clutch/flywheel combo to hold the thing down. Plan on $3k for starters for a hybrid, plan less for a straight 3L swap, but a lot more time in the machine shop for fabrication (IAC, EGR, etc).

What Dan said....
just know, that if you go with a hybrid setup, and don't have the cc's opened up, you'll have a 11-1 C/R.

Just a little off- Natural (no work) 2.5 heads on a 3.0L block is 11.2:1. Folks run this CR with no ping as long as you have the SVT ECU and 91 in the tank...
With the combustion chamber work, it drops to about 11.0:1, a little better. I have 11.1:1 'cause my 3L is .030" (.5mm) overbored...

Iknow Dan, but I don't usually tell people I have 11.2 c/r. I just say 11-1 :-P And I always assumed I guess that people that have SVTs run 93 anyways.....bad assumptions I guess :-)

No biggie! I just found it very interesting (and releving) that I haven't had one audible ping in my hybrid since the day I installed it.

I plan on doing all of the work with exception of the head work. I was wondering where the electric water pump will mount on a 99 taurus hybrid engine. I read the cougar 3L FAQ page thanks for the link.

Sure it's possible. It just means the pulley that sticks out of the head that is attached to the cam is useless. Unless you want to do something clever and have the cam power a supercharger. However, if you have the correct head and cam, you might as well run the belt driven one. Just means less you have to deal with and less parts you have to buy.
