I was wondering if any of you guys have components in your cars. I also wondering what did you guys use to house the 6 1/2 or 5 1/4 in the front doors. Any replies would help.

Thanks

I used the original speakers to make a template out of 1/4" masonite. That way there was no requirement to drill new holes to mount it. I had a foam baffle behind the speaker to protect it from moisture.

I bought the Metra 6x8 to 5-1/4 or 6.5 adapters. They are plastic, ~$15. Too lazy to cut my own.

Hi,

I use Kicker 57i's in the front doors. They are 5x7's with a tweeter that can be either coaxially mounted or located elsewhere with an external crossover. Tweeters swivel in mounts. Very nice speakers. Can be found for $175 online.

In the rear deck I have a pair of ADS 320is'. The mid/bass driver is mounted in the deck and the tweeters are mounted on the plastic panel btwn the rear seat and the door firing forward. The tweeters are soft dome which can be a plus in an automotive environment.

I suggest avoiding using the rear door locations altogether as the sound seems to get swallowed up back there by the seats and carpeting. At one time I had a pair of Infinity 5x7's in there and felt that I could've left the factory units in there and not noticed the difference.

Alpine TDA 7563 head unit
Alpine CHA S624 six disc changer (fits in glove box nicely!)
Kicker 57i's in front doors
ADS 320is' in rear deck
2 Soundstream D200's

I used the masonite also for my Alpine 5.25's.

Made a few different prototypes out of cardboard and when I had it correct applied it to the masonite.
