was never one to post much but have read the boards religiously since before buying my car new in Apr 99, so figured i'd share...started two weeks ago, svt broke down, trans stuck in 3rd, towed it to the dealership, got a complete trans rebuild under warranty, shift forks went out, and also shelled out 350 bucks for a new wheel bearing (not covered b/c the car was lowered they said, since I had alreayd gotten the trans didnt really feel like arguing) Now for the crappy part, got the car back tues night, had it for 4 days then on fri, sitting at a red light, got nailed by a dumb@ss in a dodge neon, 4 DAYS LATER!!1, bumper smashed to pieces, trunk floor all wrinkled, who knows how much, its getting an estimate on tues, luckily its mostly in the bumper, very minor damage to quarter panel (proabably wont be totaled) Now for the happy ending, i had been on the fence about trading it in, but when it came down to it, i knew i was really going to miss but so this pretty much sealed the deal, and I put down a deposit on an sti this morning, blk with silver wheels. so thats the story, really going to miss the svt, was a great car, bought it new when i was 19 in 1999, had it 5 years, loved it to death, sad to see it go, so look for a recently repaired svt in the local paper soon

good choice on the replacement though! and thank you for getting the black and silver, best color combo IMO... i'm so sick of the blue and golds running around.

I have a question, in a case like that where you have absolutely no fault in the accident, its the other guys insurance that will pay correct? So can the guys insurance company really "total out" your car? It seems to me that it would be your decision on what happens to you car. Especially with as low value as our cars are, they are worth more to you fixed up than totaled out and having to shell out the cost of a new car. -Nick

I work for an insurance company and see this all the time. Yes you have some say but if you want it repaired and it will cost more than totaling, then you are SOL.

yeah, the other guys insurance is paying for the damages, rental car etc, but as far as what happens with the repairs, i know that once it approachs like 75% of the car's value or something, WOLF you probably would know better than me, they just total it out so im just going to have to wait and see, the car is actually still drivable, i had to peel the fender liners and edge of the bumper of the wheels, but whatever damage is under there i dont know, just have to see
as far as the sti, yeah it was a sweetass car, definitely takes the anger level of losing the svt down, i was really p*ssed when the accident happened. i cant wait, two weeks until it comes in, i like the color too, too many blue with gold and black with gold wheels
