I am installing SS brake lines and new brakes on my 99 maxima, and reading the how to on Maxima.org it states I will need a 10mm flare nut wrench, is this really neccessary?
Can someone explain the difference between combination wrenches and a flare nut wrench, and if I can just use a regular wrench?

A flare nut wrench is kinda like a box end wrench with a little piece notched out. Go to craftsman.com .... they have pics online of these type of wrenches.
I imagine you could get away with a regular wrench but the flare nut will give more uniform torqing action on the nut.

It is possible to "get away with" using a regular combination wrench, but on brake line fittings, they tend to be very easy to strip, and a flare nut wrench (also known as Brake line wrenches) goes a LONG way toward making them last longer. Though, it is more critical when servicing the joints than assembling them for the first time.

so should I pick one up or just use my box end craftsman wrench?
Also if I can get a 6 point socket in there I could just use that also

If you plan on keeping the car for a while, you should probably go ahead and get the tool and safe your self from trouble later down the line. It can't be more than a few bucks and it's always nice to have the right tools.

You can't use a box end wrench !
If you do, there is no way of removing the wrench from around the brake line once it's screwed into the caliper.
It's flare wrench or open end wrench.
